Previously, international students applying for visas in Australia were subject to the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) assessment, ensuring their sincere intent to pursue education in the country. However, as of March 23, 2024, a new Genuine Student (GS) requirement has been introduced, simplifying the application process by replacing the 300-word statement with targeted questions.

**Key Points:**

1. **Transition from GTE to GS Requirement:** The Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) assessment has been replaced by the Genuine Student (GS) requirement in Australia’s student visa assessment process.

2. **Changes in Application Process:** Under the new GS requirement, applicants will no longer need to furnish a 300-word statement. Instead, they will respond to specific questions aimed at providing a clearer understanding of their intentions and circumstances.

3. **Focus Areas of GS Requirement Questions:** The new GS requirement questions will delve into various aspects, including the applicant’s current situation, course selection rationale, anticipated benefits of the chosen course, and any prior studies undertaken in Australia.

4. **Student Visa Declaration:** Alongside the Genuine Student requirement, applicants will need to affirm their understanding of the responsibilities of being a genuine student in Australia. They must also acknowledge their awareness of visa rules and their commitment to notifying the Department of Home Affairs about any changes in circumstances.

5. **Limited Eligibility for Permanent Residency:** While some graduates may be eligible for permanent residency, it’s crucial for applicants to understand that only a limited number will qualify. Those ineligible for permanent residency must leave Australia upon completion of their studies.

The introduction of the Genuine Student requirement streamlines the visa application process while ensuring that international students genuinely intend to pursue quality education in Australia.

Notably, the requisite score for student visas will elevate from 5.5 to 6.0. Additionally, there will be an elevation in the minimum score prerequisite for temporary graduate visas, soaring from 6.0 to 6.5.
