Migration Tasmania has announced major changes to its Skilled Migration State Nomination Program, with restrictions being placed on Registrations of Interest (ROIs) due to overwhelming demand.
From 5:00 pm on Monday, 19 May 2025, only candidates allocated a Gold Pass will be able to submit an ROI. The Gold Pass applies to applicants with a valid skills assessment and eligible employment in critical roles.
This window will be short-lived. All ROI submissions will cease entirely at 5:00 pm on Monday, 16 June 2025, marking the closure of the program for the rest of the 2024–25 nomination year.
Migration Tasmania cited the high volume of applications as the reason for this early shutdown, noting that demand now exceeds the remaining nomination places available.
The department will continue processing already submitted nomination applications, but warns that not all lodged applications will receive nomination before the program year ends, due to the limited number of remaining places.
Applicants who are approved after the allocation is exhausted will have their nominations deferred until Tasmania receives its 2025–26 program year allocation.
Uninvited ROIs will remain in the Application Gateway and may be considered when the 2025–26 program reopens. Further details on the upcoming program year will be published on the Migration Tasmania website and via their official newsletter.
