Nepalese Family in Shepparton Seeks Help After Devastating Home Burglary

by Namaste Melbourne

The Nepalese community in Melbourne and beyond is rallying to support Dr. Sanjay Kuikel, a junior doctor working in regional Victoria, and his family, who have suffered a heartbreaking loss. While Sanjay, his wife Nilima, and their two young children—a 3.5-year-old daughter, Nysah, and a 15-month-old son, Nyson—were overseas visiting family, their home in Shepparton was broken into and ransacked.

A group of four to five individuals unlawfully occupied their home for over three weeks, leaving it in disarray. Upon returning, the family found their house unsafe, with many of their valuable and sentimental belongings stolen. The burglary resulted in losses exceeding $50,000, including:

  • Wedding jewellery, carrying immense emotional value

  • Gold saved over years as a financial safety net

  • Essential household items such as clothes, kitchenware, and their children’s possessions

  • Most devastatingly, their sense of security and peace of mind

This traumatic ordeal has deeply affected the family, particularly Nilima, a full-time student and dedicated mother. Forced to relocate to temporary accommodation, they are now struggling to rebuild their lives while grappling with emotional distress and financial strain.

Dr. Sanjay, who has devoted his career to caring for the regional Victorian community, is now reaching out for support. The family is seeking donations to help:

  • Replace essential items lost in the burglary

  • Secure safe and stable housing

  • Alleviate the financial burden caused by this tragedy

  • Provide stability and comfort for their young children during this challenging time

“Your support, no matter how small, will help us take steps toward healing and rebuilding,” Sanjay shared on behalf of his family. The Nepalese community and kind-hearted individuals are encouraged to come together to assist Sanjay, Nilima, Nysah, and Nyson in restoring their sense of home and security.

To contribute or learn more about how you can help, please contact local Nepalese community organizations in Melbourne or Shepparton. Every donation brings this family closer to recovery.

With gratitude, The Nepalese Community in Melbourne
